Year 5 spent a fabulous day at Kew Gardens as enrichment for learning in Science and Art (flowering plants and floral observations). We explored the magnificent Palm House with its beautiful greenery and also took a wander through the Princess of Wales Conservatory to see various cacti. Furthermore, we participated in a fantastic workshop looking at pollination of flowers. What a great start to the Summer term!

Year 4 enjoyed taking part in an animal workshop with Mr Khan, who visited the school with a selection of amazing animals including a cornsnake, milk snake, leopard geckos, locusts, dart frogs and panther chaleleons! This was wonderful enrichment for learning in Science (classification of animals) and English (reading Charlotte's Web) - it was amazing to see and touch these creatures, as well as learn lots of interesting facts and ask questions about them too. Special thanks to Mr Khan for holding such an engaging workshop for us all!
Year 4 visit to The Science Museum

Year 4's visit to the Science Museum was packed full of adventure and exploration! We started with exploring steam engines in the Energy hall and took a closer look at James Watt's very own tools in his workshop. As well as exploring the journey of inventions, we were lucky enough to experience hands-on science in the Wonderlab to enrich our learning about forces. This included taking a ride down slides made of different materials and attempting to lift our body weight as much as possible using a pulley!

Book Week has been a great success with a variety of exciting activities to promote our love of reading here at Whitchurch. Thanks to our families who came along to take part in Stay and Read sessions. We also enjoyed designing book covers and blurbs, Jack and the Beanstalk performances, Buddy Reading, Book Exchange in the playground and of course our popular Dress-up Day to round off the week - there were some fantastic costumes throughout the school! Congratulations to those awarded certificates and prizes; including the best door design, costume and performance.
Year 2 visit to The Florence Nightingale Museum

Year 2 visited to The Florence Nightingale Museum in London as enrichment for their topic 'Inspirational Women'. Our workshop session at the museum began with a performance by the museum's own 'Florence Nightingale' describing her life and work. We discovered the story of the 'The Lady with the Lamp', why Florence Nightingale went to the Crimea, how she improved conditions for the soldiers and nurses and what happened as a result of her work. We also enjoyed exploring the museum, where we discovered artefacts from Florence's life and had fun dressing up as nurses and soldiers!

Year 1 have created amazing Bug Hotels as part of our Science topic Living Things and their Habitats, where we have been learning all about minibeats and their different types of homes. We held an amazing exhibition to display all of our wonderful work to parents who were delighted and impressed with our comfortable creature homes!
Year 5 visit to The Science Museum

Year 5 enjoyed a day at The Science Museum in London. We visited the Space gallery where we saw a real moon rock. Later on we visited the Mathematics gallery where we witnessed some impressive inventions, including and a computer from 1954! It was amazing to see how times have changed.
Year 1 visit to Windsor Castle

Year 1 made their way to Windsor Castle to enrich our learning about Kings and Queens in British history. We were so excited to visit such a majestic places that has been the home of monarchs for 900 years. As well as learning more about the Kings and Queens of England, we explored the State rooms and Queen Mary's Doll's House. We were also lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Changing of the Guard. The visit was a magical experience straight from a fairy tale!
Year 5 visit to Buckingham Palace

???Year 5 enjoyed a fabulous day at Buckingham Palace to enrich their work in English (writing a formal letter to King Charles III) and Art (study of Stephen Wiltshire's city landscapes). The children travelled by tube to the Palace and sketched the building - some choosing sections of the Palace and others drawing the entire structure plus the elaborate gates. These sketches will be used to create mono prints in art lesson over the last few weeks of the term. They also wrote a description of the Palace which they will use in their English lessons back at school.
Year 6 visit to The National Maritime Museum

In English, Year 6 have been reading Shackleton's Journey - the story of Ernest Shackleton, a great explorer who led an expedition to Antarctica in 1914 on a ship called Endurance.
To enhance their learning, the children visited The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich to learn more about Shackleton and his crew, the supplies they took with them and different sea objects. They also explored the RRS Sir David Attenborough - a research ship that is currently on an expedition to Antarctica. The visit was a great enrichment opportunity and wonderful experience!
Year 3 visit to The Science Museum

Year 3 visited The Science Museum as enrichment for their science topic about forces. They really enjoyed attending the workshop 'Fantastic Forces' and participating in various experiments related to forces and magnets. It was a great day where the children were able to develop their understanding and see forces in action.
Year 6 visit to Kingswood (November 2022)

Year 6 have spent an amazing 3 days at Grosvenor Hall in Kingswood this week. The children had lots of fun taking part in a range of exciting activities including the zip wire, orienteering, leap of faith and lots more! They worked on the skills of leadership, communication and teamwork - and were an absolute credit to their parents and Whitchurch. Well done Year 6!
Year 4 visit to St Paul's Cathedral (November 2022)

Year 4 children visited St Paul's Cathedral for a guided tour to enrich their learning about Faith and Belief. During the tour, they re-enacted the Nativity story after being shown the Mother and Son sculpture by the famous artist Henry Moore. The children enjoyed the role playing (dressing up as shepherds, the three wise men and the angels) as they explored different parts of the church. They learnt the significance of the Nativity story to Christmas and that the best Christmas presents are themselves; showing care and kindness, being generous and helping others. They also enjoyed the aerial view of London from the dome of the cathedral!

Year 6 visit to the Imperial War Museum

Year 6 visited the Imperial War Museum to learn about the events leading to World War II and about World War II itself. The children learnt about many heroes from the wars, experienced an Anderson and Morrison shelter and also walked through some life-like trenches. We had a brilliant time and learnt so much that will help us with our learning in the classroom.
Year 1 visit to Natural History Museum (July 2022)

Year 1 visited the Natural History Museum to enrich their learning about plastic pollution. The children discovered over 4.5 billion years of natural history and learnt more about plastic pollution. They explored how humans have transformed the natural world and looked at solutions to save our planet. Year 1 had a fantastic time and especially enjoyed the train journey!

Year 6 put on a spectacular production of Beauty and the Beast. They rehearsed non stop for over a week and wowed their parents and carers with their singing and acting talents. Congratulations to all involved in putting on a great show!

What fantastic Sports Days we have had!? This year we hosted our annual sports day across two days using Avanti's playing fields. The weather was glorious and we had a superb turnout from families. The children are still ecstatic from all the excitement. We held our awards ceremony this afternoon and gave out medals to a selection of boys and girls. There was a trophy awarded to the house team with the most amount of points.
Thanks to all the parents who volunteered their mornings and days to help with the set up and scoring of the day and also those who helped with heavy lifting throughout the event. All your hard work ensured the day ran smoothly.

Our Summer Fair was packed with family fun and entertainment, bring our families and the community together.
The fair featured a variety of main stage entertainment from the school choir, orchestra, guitar ensemble, Stagecoach, urban dance and children’s talent show. Families also enjoyed spending their tokens at the wide range of stalls including international food and drink, arts and crafts, beauty and cookery school. Children were very excited to meet the local fire brigade and police officers.

Whitchurch enjoyed an action packed Science Week with fun learning and experiments. All children have learnt about a famous scientist and made fantastic posters for our Science Exhibition; we have also had science experiments including testing UV rays, making ice cream, growing plants. Thank you to those parents who came to talk to children about their jobs as scientists. We will be planting all of the sunflower plants in one of our flowerbeds so we can continue to watch them grow!
Year 3 visit to GROW (June 2022)

Year 3 visited GROW in Totteridge - an agroecological farm and outdoor learning hub - to participate in a Nature Connect day. The children had an amazing time and enjoyed activities including sensory farm tours, harvesting, nature treasure hunts, mindfulness activities, chicken care and seed sowing. This enrichment opportunity linked Year 3’s Science learning (Plants & Nutriton) and PSHE (Healthy Me), whilst teaching them to be active and responsible global citizens and promoting their physical and mental health.

Year 6 children were invited to take their level 1 and 2 Bikeability training this week. Their bikes were checked over by cycle experts to ensure they are roadworthy and then children were assessed on basic skills before moving on to more advanced skills such as indicating whilst turning a corner. At the end of the training course children will be ready to cycle on roads and will receive certificates.
Reception visit to Paradise Wildlife Park (May 2022)

This week Reception enjoyed a really wild visit to Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire. The children had a fantastic time seeing all of the animals they have been learning about including lions, tigers, monkeys and zebras. Later in the week, the children wrote some lovely letters to the zookeepers about their experience and to thank them for such a memorable visit!
Year 5 visit to Hindu Temple (May 2022)

Year 5 were honoured to visit the beautiful Hindu temple in Kenton which had a calm and spiritual atmosphere. They were able to see some of the congregants praying and to learn about the gods and rituals associated with prayer.
Year 3 Cricket Trip (April 2022)

Year 3 went on an exciting trip to Lords Cricket Ground to watch Middlesex vs Leicestershire. Leicestershire won by 5 wickets! They had a jam-packed day full of exhilarating activities such as practising their throwing and catching skills and they even played a game of cricket themselves! Another exciting part of the day was having a photo with Rob Key, the current managing director of the England Cricket Team.
